Holiday Play Project

The award winning Max Roach Holiday Play Project / Summer of Play provides free regular opportunities for children, young people and their families to play, learn and have fun together with a nutritious freshly prepared meal in the safe space of our centre during the school holiday periods.

One of the goals of LCC Max Roach is to provide opportunities for families and children that they might not usually have access to. This year we took families to Southend-on-Sea for a day of fun!

Feedback emphasised positive family time and connection.

Context

Situated and operating within the most deprived ward in the borough Lambeth, Coldharbour ward. During the pandemic we experienced first-hand the detrimental effects of the implications of lockdown on children and families living in our area of high levels of poverty and deprivation.

Now more than ever before, the need for our vital free holiday play project is crucial. For local families, children and young people that face exacerbated vulnerability due to the pandemic and now the cost of living crisis.

We have seen yet again this year an increase in the demand for our holiday play service.

With a capacity for 75 children at each session, we are always seeking new opportunities with partners and funders to extend our holiday offer of activities for the community.
